Sir Daniel Gooch

Daniel Gooch was a giant in the engineering field, he became Superintendent for the GWR at the age of 21 years in 1837. He was instrumental in putting the small town of Swindon on the map and transforming it into a bustling industrial powerhouse.

I was commissioned by the South Swindon Parish Council to design and create a tree carving in the GWR Heritage Park. I selected Daniel Gooch as the key figure for this project.

The tree to be carved was an Ash tree and the top of the trunk was standing at 6 metres from the ground when I started.
